Slow down... it's Summer!

There is such a thing as being too busy. Some moms are guilty of this because they want to feel needed, worthy and in some cases, important. Being a mother is the most important job a mom has! You are worthy. You are important and you're definitely needed! There's only 24 hours in a day and you can only do 'so much' in that given time frame. Give yourself permission to say 'NO' to some events or activities. Take the opportunity this summer to slow down and connect with your kids.

Slowing down in the summertime may seem like an 'oxymoron' to some. There's family trips and cookouts. Camp for kids and fun activities. There's work and entertaining friends and family. Summer is usually packed with activities! Though there's no hard and fast rule, one system that may work for you, is a schedule. Create a schedule (it doesn't have to be formal) and if you go off track, it'll help bring you back on.

Some kids are already out for the summer and  plans may already be underway. For others, school is coming to an end. Either way, set up a schedule that includes connecting with your kids. Don't just schlep them from one activity to another. Connect. Sit with them, talk to them. Get into their world. Spend one on one time and be present. They may not show it and they may think you're acting weird, but children love one on one time. If this is not something that you do regularly, it will feel strange and uncomfortable at first. Don't be discouraged or embarrassed. Just do it! I guarantee you would love it also. It gets easier with time.

I associate summer with love. So have a love affair with your children. Fall in love with who they are. Use this season to connect and be present with them.  Don't over schedule and take it slow. Absorb and enjoy every moment you spend with them. Find creative activities to do. Go into their world, don't just take them into yours. Be connected, be loving, be patient and embrace your journey.
